Symptom

This note describes the needed MaxDB database log files that ByD Support has to add to a ByD customer call when you have MaxDB database problems.
These log files are the precondition that SAP MaxDB Support can start any database specific analysis.

Other terms

MaxDB; ByD; Log Files; knlmsg; knlmsgarchive; rtedump; database analysis;

Reason and Prerequisites

You are having MaxDB database problems on a ByD System and need help from the SAP MaxDB Support (Component: BC-DB-SDB or BC-DB-LVC)

Solution

The database log files provide the starting point for any database
analysis.

1. Database Kernel log files
As of MaxDB Version 7.7, the relevant files are:KnlMsgKnlMsgOldKnlMsgArchive

These files are located in the RUNDIRECTORY of the database, for example, /sapdb/data/wrk/.
Important to know: These files have the PseudoXml format and must be converted using, for example, diag_pack before they can be analyzed.
Please convert the files as follows:
‘dbmcli -d -u , diag_pack’
The archive ‘diagpkg.tgz’ is generated and has to be attached to the message.
More information is available under the following link in the SAP Community Network (SCN):
http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/x/PwErAg
2. DBMServer Log Files
Apart from the kernel log files from the RUNDIRECTORY, the following DBMServer files from the directory /sapdb/data/wrk provide relevant information for the analysis:dbmsrv_.prtdbmsrv_.err

Before the message is forwarded to the SAP MaxDB Database Support
Team, the converted log files must be available in the
message (e.g. as attachment)
