Creating CMS Tracks for Common Application Types
[Change M] [NetWeaver Development Infrastructure] [NWDI] [usage type DI]
Symptom
You want to create tracks in an NWDI landscape for the development of a J2EE application, a WebDynpro application, a Composite application, or another common application type.
Other terms
NetWeaver Development Infrastructure, NWDI, usage type DI, Change Management Service, CMS, track, configuration wizard, CTC
Reason and Prerequisites
Properly configured NWDI landscape release 7.0 SPS 13 (or later).
Solution
Since SAP NetWeaver release 7.0 SPS 13 tracks for the development of common applications, like J2EE applications, WebDynpro applications, xApps or composites can easily be configured using the configuration wizard in the NetWeaver Administrator (see note 923359 and online help).
Execute the configuration task “Change Management Service (CMS): Create an Application Skeleton” and follow the process.Enter the URL of the CMS you want to use (default is the CMS on the same instance), enter the CMS communication user (usually NWDI_CMSADM) and the appropriate password.
Note that you may also use the wizard to create tracks on remote CMS servers. Just enter the URL of the corresponding CMS host.Define the track details, i.e. name and description. Check the URLs of the DTR/CBS servers to be assigned to the track. By default they point to the CMS host. If you want to use other servers, enter them here.Check the given CMS transport directory. It is retrieved from the CMS and should be fine in most cases. After installation of the CMS this directory contains a number of SCAs (the same that have been deployed during installation). If you want to use SCAs from elsewhere, enter the corresponding directory here. Note that the given directory must be accessible from the CMS host, i.e. must either be a local directory or a mounted share. If a remote CMS is used and that CMS supports “uploading of SCAs” (this is a new CMS functionality introduced with 7.0 SPS 13) there is an additional checkbox on the track configuration screen. Select it if you want to upload SCAs from your local system (where the template is running) to the remote system (where the CMS is running). Enter the directory on the local system where you have prepared the SCAs for the track.
This feature simplifies preparing tracks that match a certain runtime system.Enter the details of the Software Component you want to develop in the track. Be sure to enter an appropriate and unique vendor identifier, usually a domain specifier your company owns.Select the”application template”, i.e. the type of application you want to develop. Templates are provided for the most common application types (see table below).Attach the Software component to a Product (required by SLD in release 7.0).After that point the configuration task runs unattended. Depending on the selected application template it may take some time to create the track and especially import the SCAs into the track.Wait till CMS has finished imports. You may monitor this in the CMS WebUI. After imports have finished you can start using that track for development.
Important Notes
Ensure that the SLD software catalog is up to date, especially if you select a track template for the development of a 7.1 based application on a 7.0 NWDI landscape. A typical 7.0 SLD does not know about 7.1 software components and products. The CMS needs that information for proper operation. The template will fail upon registering of software components dependencies in such a case.Ensure that the transport directory of the CMS contains SCAs for the selected track template. A standard 7.0 installation has no SCAs for a 7.1 based track (and vice versa). In such a case you will find that the CMS has not imported any of the required software components into the track. Download the required SCAs from the service marketplace (or copy them from the installation dvd) and import them manually into the track. Check the list below to find out the required SCA files for a certain track template. The configuration task imports SCAs only into the development system of the track, but not into the consolidation system.
Supported Track Templates
Note the actual names of the SCA files may slightly differ from the given schema.
