Reason and Prerequisites

This note describes where you can find the latest SAPinst patch and how you can use it for SAPinst version 642 or higher.
Solution

Find out the SAPinst version using the commandsapinst -v.
This note does not apply to SAPinst version 641 and lower.

Procedure for SAPinst version 642:
1. Download the Installation Prerequisite Checker from SAP Service Marketplace (SMP) at:
http://service.sap.com/swdc–> Download –> Installations and Upgrades –> Entry by Application Group –> SAP Technology Components –> SAPINST –> SAPINST 640 ERP04_PRC –> .
Note that no special unicode version of SAPinst 642 exists.
The non-unicode version is used for the installation of unicode and
non-unicode systems.2. Back up the installation directory if you have already started the
installation. In this case the installation directory contains the
files control.xml, keydb.xml, sapinst.log etc.
If you have not yet started the installation, create a new installation directory.3. Extract the downloaded archive to a temporary directory.4. Change to the installation directory.5. Enter the following command:
UNIX: /SAPINST// /sapinst -extract
Windows: \SAPINST\NT\ \sapinst.exe -extract6. From the installation directory, enter the following command:
UNIX:./sapinst
Windows:sapinst.exe
If you downloaded the patch before starting the installation you
have to enter the following command instead:
UNIX:./sapinst /product.catalog
Windows:/sapinst.exe /product.catalog7. The patch for version 642 fixes among others the following error message:

Note that no special unicode version of SAPinst 701 exists.

non-unicode systems.2. Back up the installation directory if you have already started the
installation. In this case the installation directory contains the
files control.xml, keydb.xml, sapinst.log etc.
If you have not yet started the installation, create a new installation directory.3. Copy the downloaded sapinst to the installation directory.4. Change to the installation directory.5. From the installation directory execute the following command:
