Symptom

- You want to optimize performance of your MaxDB or liveCache system running on HP-UX
- You are experiencing MaxDB/liveCache performance bottlenecks as described below and want to improve the situation

Reason and Prerequisites

The HP-UX 11.31 OS (Operating System) has been significantly optimized to improve the performance of highly parallelized multithreaded applications, such as SAP MaxDB and LiveCache.
If your system matches the following criteria, then upgrading the OS to HP-UX 11.31 is very likely to help:
- Relatively low MaxDB/liveCache throughput during high workload periods
- High OS System Time for MaxDB/liveCache “kernel” process
- Server is running an HP-UX Version older than 11.31 (e.g. 11.11 and 11.23)
- Server has >= 4 CPU Cores
- The HP Tool “glance” shows the system calls “kwakeup()” and “sched_yield()” dominating system time

If you are not sure whether your system matches the above criteria, please contact MaxDB/liveCache support for advice.
Solution

Upgrade OS to HP-UX 11.31 (Patch Level >= “0803″ [March 2008] )
