Symptom
The standard maintenance for Oracle Version 10.2 will end on July 31, 2010. As of August 2010, the three year Extended Support (ES) phase starts for Oracle Version 10.2. Normally, the Oracle Extended Support is subject to a charge from the first year. On May 05, 2009, Oracle announced that it would provide the Extended Support for Version 10.2 free of charge in the first year (that is, until July 31, 2011).
As a result, the Oracle Version 10.2 is available to SAP customers as a fully supported database until the end of July 2011.

Solution
Dear customer,
The Oracle Corporation will provide Extended Support for the database Version 10.2 at no extra cost until 31.07.11.
Therefore, the beginning of the chargeable Extended Support for Oracle Version 10.2 is deferred by one year to 01.08.11. Details for SAP customers about the chargeable Oracle 10.2 Extended Support will be provided in a separate note in the Q1/2011.
Oracle will provide Extended Support for Oracle 10.2 until 31.07.13.
SAP customers, who obtained their Oracle license from SAP, will be automatically entitled to the free Extended Support for Oracle 10.2.
SAP customers, who obtained their license directly from Oracle, should contact Oracle directly.
However, you can only avail of chargeable Extended Support as of August 2011 if you have concluded a relevant Extended Support contract for Oracle 10.2 with the partner from whom you acquired the Oracle license (SAP or Oracle).
Additional comments:
The Oracle Extended Support is provided by Oracle only for the final 10.2 patch set, that is, for Version 10.2.0.5. To receive full Oracle Support, customers must switch to this patch set before August 1, 2010. SAP will also release this patch set shortly after Oracle to give all SAP customers the longest amount of time possible to prepare for the switch. As of August 1, 2010, Oracle will provide all of the patches and Critical Patch Updates (CPU) for patch set 10.2.0.5 only. Therefore, we strongly recommend that all customers use patch set 10.2.0.5 as of August 1, 2010 at the latest. In general, as of August 1, 2010, Oracle will no longer certify new operating system versions or new operating system platforms for Oracle 10.2.
