Symptom

You want to reduce large data volume in particular tables
Other terms

Deletion/Archiving of table entries, improving system performance,
Unicode, conversion preparation, SPUMG
Reason and Prerequisites

System performance during Unicode conversion must be improved.
Read the Unicode Conversion Guide.
Solution

This note provides information about tables which show the largest growth in data volume. It is recommended to delete and/or archive obsolete data from these tables in the course of the Unicode conversion process in order to improve the system performance. Please refer to your Unicode Conversion Guide -> chapter “Reducing Data Volume” for details. Now proceed as follows:
a) Download the “Data Management Guide” from https://service.sap.com/ilm -> Data Archiving and maintain the tables listed and described there.
b) In the attachments to this SAP Note you will find another list of tables which should be maintained before the Unicode Preconversion Phase. Each table has one or more SAP Notes assigned which describe how to handle the specific table. Note that some of these tables are marked with *system downtime. These tables should NOT be maintained before the Unicode Preconversion Phase but shortly before the database export during system downtime.
