Download and start of SAP Shortcut from URL fails

Symptom
When trying to download and start an SAP Shortcut from an URL received e.g. via mail, Internet Explorer is started to download the SAP Shortcut from the specified site. After the download is completed, Internet Explorer is closed again but the SAP Shortcut is not started.

Symptom
During the web based cross communication across web applications deployed on the same engine using http/https protocol, an exception with message ‘unknown host’ or ‘Connection to system REPOSITORY using application REPOSITORY lost’ is thrown.
