Support of IBM Dynamic LPAR and Micropartitioning
[DLPAR] [dynamic] [help and support] [ibm access support] [LPAR] [Micropartioning] [support.ibm.com.cn] [virtualization]
Symptom
You want to use IBM Dynamic LPAR and/or Micropartining for the productive use of SAP systems
Other terms
Dynamic LPAR, DLPAR, Virtualization, Micropartioning
Reason and Prerequisites
Prerequisite: The IBM hardware and the operating system have to support Dynamic LPAR and Micropartining
Solution
IBM offers with Power5 and Power6 based computer systems running AIX, Linux on Power and i5/OS the functionality of Micropartitioning which provides the ability to add fractions of processors instead of whole processors so that clients can make better use of the servers by only allocating needed resources. If additional resources are needed at runtime, resources can be added dynamically to the LPAR without the need to reboot the LPAR, a feature which is also available with Power4 based systems.
The productive use of SAP systems in combination with Micropartitioning
and/or Dynamic LPAR on IBM System p and System i is supported by SAP.
